Macron Supports Italy's Option to Aid Tunisia's Economy

French President Emmanuel Macron announced today, Tuesday, that he shares Italy's viewpoint on the urgent need to provide economic assistance to Tunisia in light of the country's debt issues. His statements came during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Paris. Meloni had announced that "Paris and Rome have agreed on the necessity for the European Union to work practically and seriously to assist Tunisia, a country that has witnessed mass migration to Europe in recent months." Regarding the crisis in Ukraine, Meloni stated that "Italy and France will continue to support Ukraine's efforts in facing the Russian invasion." Earlier this month, the Fitch ratings agency downgraded Tunisia's credit rating to "CCC-" from "CCC+" due to uncertainty regarding the country's ability to raise sufficient funds to meet its financing needs.
