The Italian Deputy Defense Minister, Isabella Rauti, during her visit to the headquarters of the western sector of the United Nations mission, confirmed that "Lebanon is a theater of operations and stability where the largest number of Italian soldiers is deployed." She pointed out that "Lebanon is the key to stability in the Middle East and the expanded Mediterranean. This region is a strategic quartet for peace and global geopolitical balances, and Italy strongly feels the ancient bond of friendship and cooperation with the land of the cedar and a shared Mediterranean identity. Our presence is more necessary today than ever." She noted that "the positioning of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is essential, as is the responsibility for 53 kilometers of the Blue Line, the security line. Through its armed forces, Italy also responds to emergencies with targeted relief campaigns and donations coordinated by structures of civilian and military cooperation for the benefit of the most vulnerable groups in Lebanese society."
