Italy signed a letter of intent today aimed at eliminating antisemitism in football stadiums across the country. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi stated, "The initiative represents a significant contribution to football." The announcement will prevent football players from wearing the number 88 jersey, which refers to a Nazi salute, and will prohibit symbols reminiscent of Nazism. It will also require fans to use non-discriminatory language at all public events and establish guidelines on how to stop or cancel matches in cases of discrimination. Incidents of racism and antisemitism are prevalent in Italian stadiums, with fans often booing or abusing Black players.
