The Wall Street Journal revealed today, Monday, that the U.S. intelligence has a submarine surveillance system capable of detecting sounds on the ocean floor. The newspaper suggested that the Coast Guard was aware of the fate of the Titan submarine from the very first moments of its disappearance. The report noted that the U.S. military possesses complex acoustic technologies to eavesdrop on actions of hostile submarines at depths of 1,000 feet underwater, particularly during the Cold War.

According to the Rand Corporation, sound sensing systems are still in use today, and likely detected the explosion sounds from the Titan submarine. However, it may take a long time before the U.S. government reveals its secrets on this matter.
