Italian Goalkeeper Buffon Retires After 28 Years

Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, 45 years old, announced his retirement from football today, Wednesday, after a 28-year career in which he achieved unprecedented success with his club and the national team. Buffon said in a statement: "This is what I have. You gave me everything and I gave you everything. We did it together."

Buffon, who won the 2006 World Cup, claimed the Serie A title ten times with Juventus, in addition to a Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain. He is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers in history. He ended his career with Parma, where he started, in the Italian second division and struggled with injuries in his final season.

Buffon joined Juventus from Parma in 2001 and spent most of his career with the team, except for the 2018-2019 season when he played for Paris, before returning to the Turin-based team and then joining Parma in June 2021.
