The office of the Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, stated that "after circulation on social media of an image of a card issued by the Municipality of Laklouk for a police officer of Syrian nationality, Mawlawi instructed the security agencies affiliated with the ministry to conduct an immediate investigation into the validity of the municipality's issuance of such a card and the extent to which the municipality complies with the laws, as well as the identification documents belonging to the Syrian individual." The statement added, "necessary legal actions will be taken against violators based on the investigation's results."
The head of the Laklouk municipality, Riyad Marai, pointed out that "a photo of a cardboard card has circulated on social media, indicating that a person of Syrian nationality works as a municipal police officer in Laklouk." He clarified in a statement that "this card is forged and lacks any official seal or signature. Additionally, the Municipality of Laklouk is one of the small municipalities that faces difficulties, like other municipalities, in obtaining the resources needed to carry out its fundamental tasks (such as collecting and disposing of waste). How can it employ police officers when it is unable to hire sanitation workers?"
