Al Ahly, returning to the Saudi Pro League, announced today that they have signed Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Chelsea. Al Ahly posted on their Twitter account: "Lion of Teranga. The best goalkeeper in the world. Edouard Mendy is Al Ahly." The club also shared a video of the Senegalese goalkeeper wearing a jersey labeled 2026, revealing the contract duration to be three years.
Mendy, 31, played for several French clubs before moving to Chelsea in 2020. The Saudi league has become attractive to stars following Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer to Al Nassr in a massive deal at the end of last year. Earlier this month, league champions Al Ittihad signed the French duo Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kanté, and Al Hilal announced the signing of Portuguese player Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Reports indicate that more European football stars are expected to join Saudi clubs this summer.
