Sisi Affirms That His Country is Not Involved in the Sudanese Conflict, Reports of Egyptian-Emirati Mediation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said today, Monday, that Egyptian forces in Sudan were there only to participate in training with the Sudanese forces and do not support any party. He stated that Cairo is conducting "endless communications with the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces to encourage them to cease fire and preserve Sudanese blood and restore stability," emphasizing that his country's position is one of non-interference in Sudan's affairs. Sisi, in a speech following a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces broadcasted on Egyptian television, assured the safety of Egyptian soldiers in Sudan, saying, "We hope to bring these forces back as soon as possible." Additionally, the Rapid Support Forces released a video they claimed shows Egyptian forces that "surrendered" to them in the town of Merowe in the north, which is roughly halfway between the Sudanese capital Khartoum and the border with Egypt. On another note, Reuters reported from two Egyptian security sources that Egypt and the UAE are working on a proposed ceasefire in Sudan as clashes continue between the Sudanese army and the quasi-military Rapid Support Forces for the third consecutive day. The sources further stated that the proposal has yet to yield results.
