US Congressman Calls for Suspension of Military Aid to Egypt

Democratic Congressman Gregory Meeks, a prominent member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced today that he has requested the State Department to suspend part of the military funding to Egypt linked to human rights standards. He noted that "Congress requires further clarification from the State Department on how concerns regarding the treatment of political prisoners, journalists, and the rule of law are being addressed in our bilateral relations."
