The World Health Organization (WHO) has expedited the delivery of vital medical supplies to Lebanon to enable it to respond to any potential health crisis. The organization stated in a press release that two shipments of vital medical supplies arrived in the capital Beirut on Sunday, coming from the WHO logistics hub in Dubai. These shipments contain enough medicines and surgical supplies to meet the needs of between 800 to 1,000 injured individuals.
The report noted that since the escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine last Saturday, there have also been reports of clashes along the border between Israel and southern Lebanon, resulting in civilian casualties. If these clashes escalate further, more civilians will be at risk and will require immediate access to life-saving medical care. The WHO emphasized that it is working with the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health and health partners to enhance preparedness within the health system to respond to potential increases in casualties due to rising violence.
