Pele's Family Fatigued by Condolences as He Receives Treatment Without Being in Danger

Two daughters of the Brazilian football legend Pele, who has been hospitalized since Tuesday, announced on Sunday that his health does not represent any "danger," expressing optimism about his return home. Daughter Kelly Nascimento stated in an interview with Brazilian station Globo that Pele "is ill, he is old, but he is currently in the hospital due to pneumonia. When he gets better, he will return home." Pele is suffering from pneumonia as a result of contracting COVID-19 three weeks ago. His sister Flavia Arantes said that Pele "is not in the intensive care unit; he is in a regular room. He is not in danger; he is receiving treatment." Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pele, was admitted to Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo on Tuesday for a reassessment of the treatment he is receiving for colon cancer. Doctors stated that the respiratory infection he is experiencing "is being treated with antibiotics." The hospital reported on Saturday that his condition is "stable" and that he is responding well to respiratory treatment, which was reaffirmed by the hospital's media office to AFP on Sunday. Pele (82 years old) mentioned on Saturday that he feels "strong and hopeful." His daughters also denied rumors about a deterioration in his health on Sunday, with Flavia telling Globo, "We are tired of receiving condolences."
