American actress Amber Heard returns to cinema in her first appearance after losing her legal battle with her ex-husband, star Johnny Depp. She is set to participate in the film "In The Fire," which will premiere at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy. The film is scheduled to debut on June 24 during its 69th edition, and Heard is expected to attend the screening alongside the film's director, Conor Allen, and co-star Eduardo Noriega.
The film is set in the 19th century and follows Heard's character, an American psychiatrist who goes to a remote farm to treat a troubled child at a time when belief in psychotherapy was scarce. As she begins her treatment, a war ignites between science and religion with the local priest, who believes the child is "possessed by the devil."
The legal battle between the former couple began with an article published in the Washington Post in 2018, in which Heard described herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse" without naming her ex-husband. Depp claimed the article "ruined his reputation and career," and filed a lawsuit against her for defamation seeking $50 million in damages, to which Heard responded with a counterclaim demanding double that amount.
After six weeks of trial, the jurors concluded that the former couple had defamed each other, but they determined that the damage inflicted on Depp was greater.
