Nigerian President Calls Back Ambassadors Worldwide

The spokesperson for Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Ajuri Ngelale, announced that "the president has ordered the immediate recall of the country’s ambassadors around the world." The spokesperson emphasized that "the president is determined to ensure that efficiency and world-class quality will henceforth be the hallmark of services provided to citizens, residents, and potential visitors alike." Tinubu's office stated in a release that "Nigeria’s permanent representatives to the United Nations in New York and Geneva are exempt from the recall due to the ongoing UN General Assembly this month." Nigeria has 109 diplomatic missions worldwide, which include 76 embassies, 22 high commissions, and 11 consulates. Tinubu, who has initiated the largest reforms in the country in decades, is scheduled to have discussions with U.S. President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. He will also meet with the leaders of Brazil, India, South Korea, and Germany during this month's G20 summit.
