Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi, in his Sunday sermon from Bakirkh, indicated that "political blindness has caused and continues to cause the collapse of Lebanon economically, financially, and socially, leading it to rank 136 in terms of quality of life." He addressed the officials, asking: "We ask you, gentlemen, why do you direct your constitutional responsibility towards the destruction of the state and depriving it of reforms? Oh, the unfortunate times that have brought you to where you are, through the occupation of the state and its reins. But oppression does not last, and no matter how intense the darkness of oppression, poverty, and destruction, Christ will dispel this darkness as He wishes and when He wishes."
