Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani directed the imposition of a curfew in Kirkuk on Saturday evening and ordered extensive security operations in areas that experienced unrest for thorough inspections. A statement from the spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasul, highlighted that Al-Sudani emphasized the need for security forces to be decisive in apprehending anyone attempting to disrupt security in Kirkuk, regardless of their affiliation, and to prohibit carrying weapons, except for security personnel.
Al-Sudani further called on all political entities and civil and social activities to play their role in preventing strife and maintaining security, stability, and order in Kirkuk, according to the statement. The province of Kirkuk witnessed clashes following assaults on volunteer teams from the Kurdistan Region heading south, who were pelted and attacked with stones, resulting in casualties and injuries.
