A wedding celebration in Beni Suef, southern Egypt, turned tragic as approximately 80 guests suddenly fell ill with suspected food poisoning. Several guests collapsed inside the reception hall, necessitating an urgent transfer to the hospital for medical care, transforming the joyful atmosphere into one of panic and confusion.
Beni Suef Specialist Hospital received the patients throughout the day on Thursday, all displaying symptoms indicative of food poisoning, following their attendance at a wedding in the city.
Affected attendees and their families reported consuming lupines and snacks at the wedding, after which symptoms like vomiting, abdominal pain, nausea, and fatigue began to manifest, requiring hospitalization for treatment.
According to local media, 66 of the users were discharged after receiving necessary first aid and showing health improvements, while 14 remain under medical observation for further treatment and to ensure their conditions stabilize.
In the ongoing investigation, Beni Suef security authorities arrested a lupine vendor and his wife, suspecting their involvement in the mass poisoning incident. Authorities continue their inquiry to uncover the incident’s details and await lab results on food samples to determine the definitive cause of the poisoning.
