Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan indicated today, Friday, that his upcoming talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin could lead to the resumption of the grain initiative in the Black Sea, and urged Western countries to consider Russia's demands. Erdogan stated, "Ending the grain agreement in the Black Sea will have a series of consequences, ranging from increased global food prices to grain shortages in certain areas, and it may even lead to new waves of migration." He added, "I believe that by discussing the matter comprehensively with President Putin, we can ensure the continuation of this humanitarian effort. We also recognize that Putin has certain expectations from Western countries, and it is crucial for these countries to take action in this regard." Russia withdrew from the agreement this week, which was mediated by the United Nations and Turkey, allowing for the safe export of Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea over the past year.
