Lebanese Kataeb Party leader, MP Sami Gemayel, received French Ambassador Anne Grillo today, Thursday, at the Kataeb headquarters in Sassine, where they discussed recent developments, particularly the issue of electing a president for the republic.
Gemayel began by noting that France is playing a role in assisting Lebanon and that French intentions are always in the interest of the Lebanese people, emphasizing the importance of emerging from the current crisis.
After the meeting with the French ambassador, Gemayel stated: "Impossible options will remain impossible, and the international community has become aware that a partisan president is rejected. The Lebanese people refuse to submit."
He pointed out that electing any president associated with the current political conflict would lead to further division in the country, stressing that unifying Lebanon requires a figure acceptable to all, capable of implementing the necessary reforms to rescue Lebanon from its economic reality.
Furthermore, he asserted, “We affirmed our principles, and Lebanon cannot afford to elect a president that entrenches division in the country. Proposing any president who is provocative or is a party in Lebanese political life will not yield results." He emphasized that the Kataeb Party, the opposition, and all allies refuse to allow Hezbollah's guardianship over Lebanon to continue for the next six years as it did in the past.
He expressed confidence that the international approach recognizes all dangers, stating, "It understands that a large segment of Lebanese society rejects submission and subservience, which is something that has become well-known and clear."
