The first round of negotiations between Argentine star Lionel Messi and his team Paris Saint-Germain ended without reaching an agreement on renewing the contract, according to the Spanish newspaper "Marca." The newspaper reported that Jorge Messi, the star's brother and agent, held several online meetings with Luis Campos, the club's sporting director, but they did not come to an agreement. The Parisian club proposes a one-year renewal for Messi, while the player's priority remains to stay in Paris, as it is the only offer he has on the table. The newspaper concluded that the renewal will not be as easy as the club expected during that first meeting, and more meetings will be necessary in the near future for Messi to continue in the French capital. Last week, Portuguese Luis Campos, PSG's football advisor and leader in Ligue 1, confirmed that the capital club is "currently discussing" an extension of Messi's contract, which expires next June, emphasizing that he would be "happy" if the world champion could "continue" in the Parisian club. Messi joined Paris in the summer of 2021 for two seasons (plus an optional season) after his contract with Barcelona ended, where he spent most of his career, and due to the Catalan club's inability to renew for him.
