A Sudanese diplomatic source reported today, Wednesday, that the army has suspended its participation in the Jeddah talks regarding the ceasefire and enabling humanitarian aid access. On another front, the support forces announced that they shot down a Sukhoi aircraft belonging to the Sudanese army in Khartoum today.
The talks began in early May and resulted in a declaration concerning the commitment to protect civilians, as well as two short ceasefire agreements that have been repeatedly violated. The Sudanese army confirmed in a statement the decision to suspend participation in the Jeddah talks "due to the lack of commitment from the Rapid Support Forces to implement the agreement and their continued violation of the truce." Media outlets reported that serious negotiations are ongoing for both sides to return to dialogue, clarifying that the Sudanese army has suspended the talks but has not withdrawn.
