France Commits to Invest $150 Million in International Fund to Support Rural Areas

French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to invest $150 million in the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to support the fight against poverty and climate change in rural areas. In a video message broadcast during a charity event held by the nonprofit organization Global Citizen in New York, Macron stated that France has decided to host and organize the replenishment process for the fund, and through this commitment, he is issuing a call for contributions. IFAD is a United Nations agency based in Rome that works to address poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries. French Minister of State for Development, Francophony, and International Partnerships, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, also announced that France has committed to providing 40 million euros ($43 million) to the United Nations Global Fund for Education in Emergencies and Protracted Crises (Education Cannot Wait) during the 2023-2026 period.
