French Defense Minister Visits Lebanon on Wednesday

The office of French Defense Minister and Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, announced today, Sunday, that he will begin meetings in Lebanon next Wednesday with officials including caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati. He will also visit a United Nations peacekeeping base. Lecornu's office informed Agence France-Presse (AFP) in a statement, which was later confirmed by his spokesperson to Reuters, that the minister aims to reaffirm "France's commitment to the stability of Lebanon." On Thursday, Lecornu will visit the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), whose headquarters near the coastal town of Naqoura was damaged by a shell that landed inside it yesterday, Saturday.
