The Canadian lab "Citizen Lab" identified at least 5 individuals targeted by the "Quadrium" spyware in North America, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. The lab explained that this new program was designed by an unknown Israeli company called "Quadrium Limited," founded by a former Israeli military official and seasoned employees from the "NSO" company that also produced "Pegasus." The list of victims includes "journalists, opposition political figures, and one employee from a non-governmental organization," but the lab chose not to disclose their identities at this time.
It was noted that once "Quadrium" is installed on a user’s phone or personal computer, it can record calls and external sounds, capture images from the cameras, and search through the device files without the user's knowledge. The program can also create two-factor authentication codes consisting of a password and a security code to ensure continuous access to the cloud accounts of the device owner. The lab revealed that the spyware includes a "self-destruct" feature to hide its previous presence once it is not in use.
