Billionaire American owner of the "Twitter" platform, Elon Musk, has apologized to the Norwegian Foreign Ministry after the platform incorrectly identified Norway as belonging to Nigeria. He responded to a tweet from the ministry with the word "Sorry!".
Yesterday, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry requested from Twitter Support through its official account on the microblogging site to correct the error in the account description. The tweet from the Norwegian Foreign Ministry read: "Dear Twitter Support @TwitterSupport, as much as we enjoy our bilateral relations and the proximity of the alphabet with Nigeria, we would appreciate being identified as Norway," along with a smiling emoji.
In the verified official account of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, it was mistakenly described as a government organization belonging to Nigeria, along with incorrect names for the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
In English, the letters of Norway are completely different from those of Nigeria, despite the names starting with the letter "N." It seems that the technical team at the microblogging site worked for hours to fix the mistake, and the account of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry is now correctly referred to as belonging to a Norwegian governmental institution, but without any response to the tweet; Musk replied today with an apology.
Since Elon Musk controversially acquired Twitter two months ago, the platform has faced a series of technical issues, including account verification with the blue checkmark.
