U.S. Stocks Close Lower

Major indexes closed lower on Wall Street today, Wednesday, after the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged as widely expected, adjusted its economic forecasts for rate hikes, and warned that the fight against inflation is far from over. According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 index dropped by 42.02 points, or 0.95 percent, to close at 4401.93 points, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 209.62 points, or 1.53 percent, to record 13468.57 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 78.13 points, or 0.23 percent, to 34439.60 points.
