Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine has begun discussions with Sweden regarding the potential acquisition of Gripen fighter jets. This announcement followed his meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at the government resort outside Stockholm on Saturday. Zelensky also declared the commencement of training for Ukrainian pilots to operate the Swedish Gripen fighters, although there was no information regarding the arrival of such jets in Kyiv, according to Russia Today.
The Ukrainian president arrived in Sweden for a visit during which he said he would meet with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, members of the royal family, and other officials to express gratitude for their support of Ukraine amid the Russian invasion. Zelensky wrote on Telegram: "Our primary mission is to strengthen the Ukrainian forces on land and in the air, to develop bilateral cooperation, especially in the defense sector, Ukraine's European integration, and common Euro-Atlantic security."
A statement from the Swedish government mentioned that Zelensky would also meet with the Speaker of Parliament, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and leaders of major parties in Sweden.
