Pope's Envoy in Moscow: The Mission is Humanitarian

The envoy of Pope Francis, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, announced on Sunday that his mission in Moscow concerning the Ukraine war focused on humanitarian issues and did not include any discussions regarding a peace plan. Zuppi stated to the government channel (Rai) that all meetings were "important, especially concerning humanitarian aspects, which is where we focused. There was no peace plan or mediation." He added, "There is a strong desire to end the violence and preserve human life, starting with the protection of the young." He mentioned that he would meet with Pope Francis in the coming days to discuss the outcomes of the meetings he conducted. The pope has repeatedly called for an end to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has devastated Ukrainian villages and cities, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions more.
