Lavrov: The West Uses Human Rights to Intervene in the Affairs of Nations

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that "the West uses human rights as a pretext to interfere in the affairs of nations, while ignoring the gross violations of human rights in the West itself." Russian Foreign Ministry Commissioner for Human Rights Grigory Lukyantsev quoted Lavrov's remarks at the conference: "Russia and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - 75 Years of Achievements and Challenges." He noted that "today, the collective West is attempting to replace the rules of international law with its own unattainable rules. Western countries often use the topic of human rights as a tool and pretext to intervene in the internal affairs of nations." He added, "The West imposes false liberal values around the world, presenting them as universal." He highlighted that "the aggressive promotion of destructive ideas and stances towards society occurs alongside gross violations of human rights in the West itself."
