The Federal Public Prosecution for Combating Rumors and Cyber Crimes has ordered the detention of a resident of Asian nationality pending investigations, after multiple charges were brought against him. The charges include using the information network to disseminate provocative advertisements that could incite public opinion and harm public interest, as well as publishing content that does not comply with media content standards and is detrimental to Emirati society.
This action follows the observation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the Public Prosecutor's Office of a video posted on social media showing the accused dressed in Emirati attire inside a luxury car exhibition, followed by two individuals carrying a board displaying what appears to be a large amount of money. In the video, he engages in a conversation with the exhibition owner, in which he requests to purchase a car costing more than two million dirhams in a contemptuous manner, and distributes bundles of money to the workers in a way that suggests extravagance and a lack of appreciation for financial value, promoting a misleading and offensive image of the country's citizens while ridiculing them, which could stir public opinion and harm public interest.
The Public Prosecution has also summoned the owner of the car exhibition where the video was filmed. It urged social media users in the country to adhere to “legal and ethical standards in the content they publish, and to consider the social characteristics and fundamental values of Emirati society, which are rooted in moral conduct across all aspects of behavior, to avoid falling under the law.”
