WhatsApp Tests New Feature: Hiding User Phone Numbers

The WhatsApp application is working on providing users with an additional feature related to "username," allowing them to hide their phone number while still being able to use the app. This update from the Meta-owned application will give users the opportunity to add another layer of privacy to their accounts. Instead of relying on phone numbers to identify contacts, users will be able to choose a unique and easy-to-remember username without disclosing their number.

The website "WABetaInfo" reported that it discovered this new feature in the latest version of "WhatsApp Beta" for Android 2.23.11.15, indicating that it is currently "under development and not yet available." The site did not specify a release date for the feature for all users but confirmed it will continue to monitor updates, expressing confidence that this feature will significantly change the ways of communication within the app.

It's worth noting that "WhatsApp Beta" is the blog dedicated to announcing new features under development and testing before their official release in the WhatsApp program. Additionally, conversations conducted through usernames will remain protected with end-to-end encryption. This feature comes after WhatsApp recently launched a message editing feature that allows users to modify or delete a message within 15 minutes of sending it.
