Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Iranians on Wednesday to reconsider their supply of deadly drones to Russia to prevent their descent into "the dark side of history."
In his nightly video address, Zelensky asked, “The simple question is: what is your interest in being a partner in Russian terrorism?”
He added, “What does Iran gain from such killing? ... Killed by Russian hands but with your weapons. The Shahed drones, which terrorize Ukraine every night, only mean the Iranian people are slipping more and more into the dark side of history.”
Iranian-made Shahed drones, which Moscow has obtained, have played a key role in Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, but Zelensky noted that Kyiv's air defenses have become skilled at shooting them down.
Russia has intensified its military cooperation with Iran since it launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Tehran initially denied supplying Moscow with Shahed drones but later stated that it had provided a small number of those drones before the conflict began.
