Qatar has been awarded the honor of hosting the 2027 Basketball World Cup, as announced by the International Basketball Federation during a meeting held today, Friday, in the Philippine capital of Manila. The Central Council of the International Basketball Federation declared its decision after evaluating the bids submitted by the candidate countries, with Qatar emerging as the most prominent option to host the 2027 edition of the tournament, which will take place for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa region.
On this occasion, the President of the Qatari Basketball Federation, Mohammed Saad Al-Mughaizib, stated, "Today we celebrate this great achievement in the history of Qatari basketball and in the history of the Qatari Basketball Federation. Over the past decades, we have witnessed significant development in sports in Qatar and in the region, and we affirm to the whole world that this edition of the World Cup will inspire future generations to embrace this sport." He added, "We look forward to welcoming players, fans, and officials from the International Basketball Federation to our country in 2027 for an exceptional celebration of basketball. On this occasion, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the International Basketball Federation for its confidence in our capabilities, as well as express my sincere gratitude to the Qatari Olympic Committee, our government, and our ministries and partners for their tremendous support of our bid and Qatar's vision for the tournament, as together we can write history."
