Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani stated today that 90% of building permits are surrounded by corruption, emphasizing the need to confront the dealings with fines subjected to the whims of corrupt employees.
In a speech during his visit to the Baghdad Municipality building, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), he said that "simplifying procedures in state departments will eliminate many cases of corruption that occur through direct interaction with citizens," highlighting the importance of electronic transactions.
He noted that "some have declared themselves contractors to rent out streets, taking parking fees from people without any legal mandate," pointing to complaints from citizens regarding the slow implementation of projects for street pavement, and assured that they would work on resolving these issues.
He emphasized that "the government has adopted services as a priority in its work, and we will continue to address citizens' problems and work towards achieving solutions," clarifying that "dealing with fines is subject to the whims of corrupt employees, and we must confront this."
