Renewed Qatari Movement After the French Towards Lebanon.. Le Drian Coming with Sanctions for Blockers

Regional and international pressure continues to recreate the political authority in Lebanon, aiming for a president and government capable of addressing developments in the country, particularly in the oil sector, signing export contracts, and examining the mechanism for this export in the upcoming phase. Official political circles, according to the newspaper "Al-Jarida," do not separate the gas exploration process in the sea from the issue of land border demarcation or the display of borders, as per the Lebanese terminology, considering that the borders are demarcated, but there must be an agreement on 13 disputed points with Israel.

Sources add that the issue of displaying land borders and solving the problem of the outstanding points will require the presence of a president to sign the displayed borders and send and register them at the United Nations, similar to what occurred after the maritime border demarcation. This will exert pressure on political forces to pursue a presidential settlement.

According to information, external pressures will increase in the coming phase, particularly during the next September with the visit of French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian, who will emphasize that if an agreement is not reached, European countries and others will impose sanctions on the obstructors.

On another note, Lebanese circles are awaiting the renewal of Qatari movement towards Lebanon following the French initiative, which has encountered numerous obstacles, with information suggesting that the Qataris will act to exert pressure aimed at reaching an understanding, leveraging their relationships with all forces on the domestic and regional scene.
