From the stages of New York to the theaters of Lebanon, the musical theatrical production "Chicago," which started in 1926 and has been translated into 43 languages worldwide, has been presented in Arabic at the Casino du Liban in three performances. In an interview with "Wardna," director Roy Khoury mentioned that he "modified some phrases and terms to align with our Arabic language while keeping the essence of the original text unchanged."
The play, with its "Lebanonized" atmosphere, combines music and acting, embodying a reality we live, blending the madness of fame, corruption, and colluding journalism. Actor Fouad Yamin confirms to "Wardna" that the play was translated into the Lebanese language "because it closely resembles our society and addresses the human condition present in all communities, where individuals face the same internal difficulties and problems no matter where they are."
For her part, actress Cynthia Karam, who plays the character Nancy the Fire (Roxie Heart), explains that her role represents a character "who loves the spotlight and fame and will do anything, even to the point of committing murder, to achieve her goals, exploiting media and power to exonerate herself."
"Chicago" is considered one of the longest-running musical plays in theatrical history, lasting about two hours with fifteen specialized artists backstage. It is a grand theatrical work capable of transporting the audience to a humorous imagination reflecting their bitter reality.
