Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today, in a press conference following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, that Turkey is ready to play a mediating role to end the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians if both parties make such a suggestion, including the exchange of hostages. He stated, "We believe that there will be no peace in the region without an independent, sovereign State of Palestine." He added that Turkey is making necessary preparations to send humanitarian aid to Gaza. Erdogan urged Israel to stop bombarding Palestinian territories and encouraged Palestinians to refrain from provoking Israeli civilian settlements.
