Morocco: Postponement of the Abraham Accords Summit Until After Summer

Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita indicated today, Friday, that the "summit for the countries that signed the Abraham Accords will be postponed until after the summer." Morocco was scheduled to host the summit this summer, and the postponement was attributed to "problems in the agenda, unfavorable political conditions, and the provocative and unilateral actions by Israel that exacerbate the situation and negatively affect efforts to achieve calm and undermine chances for peace in the region." Israel normalized its relations with several Arab countries under the Abraham Accords, brokered by the United States. Bourita condemned the Israeli army's incursion into the city of Jenin in the West Bank and denounced Israel's decision to expand settlements in the West Bank. Yair Lapid, who formerly held the positions of Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in Israel and oversaw the organization of last year's summit while in power, noted that the current Israeli government is experiencing "failure after failure." Lapid, who now leads the opposition against the religious-nationalist government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu, added, "This is not how foreign policy should be managed."
