The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that Iran and Iraq have reached an agreement to disarm "armed terrorist groups" in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and relocate them elsewhere next month. Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani stated in a weekly press briefing that "Iran and Iraq have come to an agreement whereby Iraq commits to disarming the separatist militants and terrorist groups present on its territory, closing their bases, and relocating them before September 19." The spokesperson did not specify where the militants would be relocated. Iraq has not yet commented on the matter. Iran has continuously accused the autonomous Kurdistan region in northern Iraq of harboring terrorist groups involved in attacks against the Islamic Republic. The Revolutionary Guard has frequently targeted the bases of these groups. Local authorities reported that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched missiles and drones at militant targets in the region last September, resulting in the deaths of 13 people. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks. Iranian elite military and security forces stated that they would continue to target those they described as terrorists in the region.
