Brentford Signs Dutch Keeper Flecken

Brentford, competing in the English Premier League, announced today, Wednesday, the signing of Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flecken from German club Freiburg for a duration of four years.

The financial details were not disclosed by either party, but British and German media reported that Brentford paid a buyout clause of 13 million euros (14.31 million dollars). The 29-year-old keeper is expected to replace David Raya.

Flecken, who joined the Netherlands squad for the UEFA Nations League finals, kept a clean sheet 13 times in 34 matches this season, outperforming all goalkeepers in the German league and leading Freiburg to a fifth-place finish.

Coach Thomas Frank stated that Flecken is a top-class goalkeeper with significant experience, having had two outstanding seasons with Freiburg, which just concluded an impressive campaign in the Bundesliga, finishing fifth and qualifying for the Europa League.

He added: "He played a pivotal role with Freiburg, and now he will join us, and we hope he will enhance the group and make the team better. He is a fantastic goalkeeper who excels with his feet and initiating attacks."

Brentford finished ninth in their second season in the Premier League under Frank's management.
