Algeria Discusses Security Issues with U.S. Intelligence

A statement from the Algerian Ministry of Defense, issued today, Wednesday, reported that Algerian Army Chief of Staff Said Chengriha and U.S. Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns expressed their mutual desire to enhance cooperation and coordination in security matters during a phone conversation. The statement noted, "Both sides expressed their joint intention to strengthen the bonds of cooperation and coordination between the two countries in the security field. The discussions were also an opportunity for both sides to express their satisfaction with the level of achieved security coordination, particularly in the fight against terrorism." Algeria and the United States are partners in the war on terrorism in the Sahel region.
