Title: "Cancellation of Increases on Fines" - Kanaan Set to Submit Letter to Berri

Title:

The "Finance and Budget" Committee has canceled the increases on the fines imposed by the government in the 2024 budget, such as fines on rental contracts, failure to report, and misuse of the death certificate, among other increases. The committee also rejected the introduction of new fees given the collapsed economic and monetary situation, the seizure of people's funds in banks, and out of respect for the constitutional principle that states "taxes and fees are imposed by a specific law and not as part of the budget." The Chairman of the Finance Committee, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, expects to finalize the budget materials next week in light of the efforts made in discussing and approving the project items. He indicated that he is "in the process of submitting a letter to the Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri," informing him about the limited attendance of the Finance Committee members and the necessity to prioritize the budget discussions to finalize it before January, so it does not get issued by a government decree as it was submitted, and without amendments.
