Kremlin: Prigozhin's Plane Crash

The Kremlin announced today, Wednesday, that investigators are considering the possibility that the crash of the plane carrying Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was "planned," marking the first explicit acknowledgment of the possibility of his assassination. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated to journalists, "It is obvious that various narratives are being considered, including that of a planned act."

In response to a question about whether the International Civil Aviation Organization would investigate the incident, Peskov said that the circumstances made it different but warned that investigators had not yet reached official conclusions regarding what exactly happened. He added, "Let us wait for the results of the Russian investigation."

The Brazilian body investigating aircraft accidents told Reuters that Russia informed it that it would not investigate the crash of the Brazilian-made Embraer aircraft under international rules "at this time." In response to a question about this report, Peskov said, "First of all, the investigation is ongoing, and the investigative committee is engaged in this matter." He added, "There is no room for discussion of any international involvement in this case."
