Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Israel today, Friday, to "stop its attacks on Gaza, which he described as amounting to genocide," and urged the international community to work towards achieving a humanitarian ceasefire in the region. In a post on the social media platform "X," he stated that "Israel is provoking non-regional parties instead of retracting its mistakes in Gaza," adding that "the region needs to be rescued from the 'frenzy of madness' supported by Western powers and media." He emphasized that "the expansion of attacks on Gaza will bring nothing but more pain, death, and tears," stating that "it is clear that security cannot be achieved by massacring children, women, and civilians, bombing hospitals, schools, mosques, and churches."
Erdogan reiterated his call to Israeli leadership to immediately halt the expansion of attacks on civilians and stop operations that amount to genocide. He confirmed that "Ankara is working to end the fighting between Israelis and Palestinians before it reaches a point of no return."
In a related context, the Turkish presidency mentioned that "Erdogan discussed the 'human rights violations' being committed by Israel in Gaza with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi via a phone call." The statement noted that "Erdogan told Sisi that the Western silence regarding Gaza exacerbates the situation, and it was emphasized that 'forcing Palestinians to migrate and seek refuge cannot be accepted.'"
