Israeli Army Kills Palestinian West of Ramallah

The Israeli army announced that a Palestinian threw a hand grenade and shot at Israeli soldiers, prompting them to return fire and kill him in the occupied West Bank on Monday. Palestinian officials stated that "the man was killed." The Israeli army stated that "its soldiers stopped a driver they suspected on a road in the West Bank and interrogated him," adding that "he then exited the vehicle, threw a hand grenade at the forces, and opened fire on them before he was shot dead." The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed his death. Peace talks mediated by the United States to establish a Palestinian state collapsed in 2014, and there are no signs of revival. Israel carried out its largest military operation in years last week in the city of Jenin, resulting in the deaths of 12 Palestinians, most of whom were from armed factions, in addition to one Israeli soldier.
