House Committee Subpoenas Trump in Capitol Attack Investigation

The congressional committee investigating the Capitol building attack that occurred in January of last year voted to subpoena former U.S. President Donald Trump, an action he criticized by questioning the timing of it. The seven Democratic members and two Republican members of the committee voted in favor of issuing a subpoena for Trump to provide documents and testify under oath regarding the January 6 attack, as reported by Reuters.

Benny Thompson, the Democratic chairman of the committee, stated, "This committee will seek full accountability from any American concerning the events of January 6. For this reason, it is our duty to hear Donald Trump's testimony."

In response, Trump condemned the subpoena and questioned why he had not been called to testify earlier. He posted on Truth Social, "Why didn't the unselected committee ask me to testify for months?" He continued, "Why did they wait until the very end, the last moments of their final meeting?" He added, "Because the committee has only worked to further divide our country."
