The Polish national team won against their Saudi counterpart 2-0 in the match held today at the Education City Stadium, in the second round of the group stage of the 22nd FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar. Poland raised its points to four, placing one foot in the knockout stage. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia now needs a positive result against Mexico in the final round of the group stage next Wednesday to continue their World Cup journey.
Piotr Zieliński opened the scoring for Poland in the 39th minute with a shot into the top of the net following a counter-attack.
Salem Al-Dawsari missed a penalty for Saudi Arabia in the 45th minute.
Robert Lewandowski, the Barcelona striker, added Poland's second goal in the 82nd minute with a ground shot to the right of goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais, marking his first goal in the World Cup after having missed a similar penalty against Mexico.
In the final round of the group stage on Wednesday evening, the matches will be: Poland vs Argentina, Saudi Arabia vs Mexico.
