The fund initially aimed to raise $8 million at the start of its campaign two weeks ago, but has since increased its fundraising goal to $10 million due to a higher than expected response from donors. The organizers have now raised the target to $20 million, which they may either meet or surpass by today or tomorrow at the latest. In a report about the donations published by the New York Post on Saturday, Republican Congressman Jeff Van Drew from New Jersey described the actions of Kamala Harris's stepdaughter as "worrisome and disgusting," stating, "To be honest, I’m somewhat shocked. It is extremely troubling. Hamas will almost certainly be able to siphon any humanitarian funds that enter Gaza," implying that the donations might not reach the children in need, but rather the Hamas movement.
