Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited Iraq today, Monday, for the first time since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, seeking diplomatic support from Moscow's friendly countries in the Middle East. Kuleba stated at a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein: "We definitely see Iraq as a capable country to build bridges." He added: "We welcome any effort to restore peace in Ukraine, but there is one cornerstone that must be the foundation for every effort: this cornerstone is the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity." For his part, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein called for a ceasefire in Ukraine, saying: "This is the same message that was conveyed to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his visit to Iraq in February." He added: "Iraq seeks to be part of the solution regarding the Russia-Ukraine war," noting that wars end through negotiation and dialogue, which is what Iraq believes in.
