US authorities announced today, Tuesday, that an international law enforcement operation has taken down the notorious malicious software platform "Jackpot," widely used by cybercriminals in financial crimes. The US Department of Justice stated that the operation, dubbed "Duck Hunt," involved the FBI along with France, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Romania, and Latvia. US Attorney Martin Estrada noted that the "Jackpot" malware has infected over 700,000 computers, facilitated ransomware deployments, and caused hundreds of millions of dollars in losses to businesses, healthcare providers, and government agencies worldwide. The platform was first discovered over ten years ago and typically disseminates its malicious software through emails to victims. Security researchers believe the platform was initially launched in Russia and targeted organizations around the world from Germany to Argentina.
