Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pledged yesterday, Saturday, to a new round of cleansing institutions as part of his ongoing campaign to convince Western partners that conditions have changed in Kyiv, which has a history of rampant corruption. He stated in his speech last night: "Next week will see the completion of our work in purging state institutions of those who tried to bring back all those old habits from the past that weakened Ukraine for far too long, for decades."
He committed yesterday, Saturday, to not tolerating "old practices" in Ukraine, saying that "some seek to benefit by putting the state and others at their service," stressing that "everyone should only work for the interests of the state." Zelensky did not mention any details regarding who might be targeted. He recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the corruption revealed during a review of military recruitment centers in Ukraine, but he is generally keen to combat corruption while pushing for NATO and European Union membership.
